SeaWorld Orlando’s sold-out Howl-O-Sprint 5K returns Friday, September 18, putting the most immediate planning burden on people who already hold registrations: the last advance packet-pickup window is Wednesday, September 16, from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn SeaWorld, according to the park’s official race page.
Those who skip advance pickup may collect their materials at SeaWorld on race day beginning at 5:30 p.m. The same official instructions say the parking lot opens at 5 p.m., closes at 6:30 p.m., and the 5K starts at 7 p.m. SeaWorld advises participants to be onsite at least 45 minutes before the start. Race-day registration closes at 6:45 p.m., but the in-person event is already marked sold out and was capped at 2,000 participants.
What registered runners should know
Registration includes free race-day parking, a finisher medal for paid participants, a commemorative shirt, entry to Friday night’s Howl-O-Scream after the race, and an additional Howl-O-Scream ticket valid through October 31. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 8 p.m., after which finishers may remain for the separately ticketed Halloween event.
The race is planned to proceed rain or shine, although severe weather could delay or cancel the start. Fees are nonrefundable and registrations are nontransferable. Bicycles, skates, baby carriers and dogs are prohibited on the course. Jogging strollers are allowed but must begin behind runners and walkers. Spectators need a separate ticket to enter the event area.
Participants should arrive dressed for both running and the evening event. SeaWorld says costumes are not permitted at Howl-O-Scream, which contains intense adult content. The race course incorporates darkened park areas and themed scare zones, making the experience materially different from an ordinary road 5K. Registered runners who finish can transition directly into the nighttime event rather than leaving and purchasing separate admission for that night.
Families should also distinguish the evening race and haunted event from SeaWorld’s daytime offerings. The park’s separate event calendar describes Howl-O-Scream as a mature-audience, separately ticketed event running on select nights through October 31. The calendar also lists the family-oriented Halloween Spooktacular on select dates through November 1.
