Orlando’s major parks are moving on two timelines at once. Walt Disney World has a new experience opening within days and has released several 2027 planning dates, while Universal Orlando is deep into Halloween Horror Nights and has announced changes affecting both longtime attractions and late-night visits.

Here are five developments with the greatest practical value for upcoming trips.

1. Disney’s new animation experience opens September 14

The Magic of Disney Animation is scheduled to open September 14 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney says the new collection includes an indoor Alice in Wonderland-inspired play area, animation-themed character encounters, a drawing experience led by an Olaf Audio-Animatronics figure, and a theater presentation of Once Upon a Studio.

Visitors arriving before September 14 should not assume the full experience is operating. Those visiting on or after opening day should leave flexibility for initial demand and check the official app for current availability. TAQ’s complete Disney World update explains what is opening and how it fits into a Hollywood Studios day.

2. Disney has placed major 2027 dates on the calendar

Disney After Hours tickets are now available to eligible guests at select Disney hotels, the Swan and Dolphin, and Shades of Green; general sales begin September 22. Announced event windows extend from January into summer at Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios and EPCOT.

EPCOT International Festival of the Arts is set for January 15 through March 1, 2027, followed by the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival from March 10 through May 31. Performer schedules, dining-package dates and some event details remain pending. Travelers planning around a particular concert should wait for the relevant lineup rather than treating the festival date alone as confirmation.

Disney also announced selected 2027 resort and package offers, including advertised maximum savings that vary by travel date, hotel and eligibility. Compare the complete trip price against the room, ticket and event access actually needed.

3. Halloween Horror Nights controls Universal Studios evenings

Halloween Horror Nights 35 is underway at Universal Studios Florida on select nights through November 1. The separately ticketed event features 10 haunted houses, scare zones and entertainment. Daytime admission does not automatically provide HHN entry, and Universal Studios Florida may close regular operations earlier on event nights.

Check the official calendar before building a late-afternoon itinerary. Guests attending HHN should separately confirm event admission, early-entry options and Express access because each can have its own price and availability. See TAQ’s complete Universal Orlando update for the current planning details.

4. A longtime Universal show now has a final date

Animal Actors On Location! at Universal Studios Florida is scheduled to present its final shows November 2 and become unavailable beginning November 3. Universal has not released enough confirmed detail about the replacement to make speculation useful.

Visitors who want to see the animal-training show should treat November 2 as the outside deadline and check same-day showtimes in Universal’s app. Live entertainment can have fewer performance windows than rides, so place the show on the itinerary before filling the day with flexible attractions.

5. Epic Universe adds two late-night planning choices

Universal Celestial Goodnight now runs nightly at Epic Universe’s closing time, weather permitting. The outdoor presentation combines fountains, lighting, music and fireworks in Celestial Park. Visitors who want to see it should return from the park’s themed portals with enough time to reach the hub before closing.

Universal Nights, a separate limited-capacity event, is also planned for select Saturday nights in October. Published details describe 7 p.m. entry and event operation from 9 p.m. to midnight, with selected attractions, entertainment and refreshments. Confirm the chosen date, current price and attraction lineup directly with Universal before purchasing.

Live wait times across the region

TAQ’s Florida Theme Park Wait Times lets readers select an individual park for a shorter near-real-time view. During Halloween Horror Nights, choose Universal Studios — HHN for posted haunted-house waits. Disney visitors can select Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom individually.

Posted waits are operational snapshots rather than guarantees. Check the displayed update time and follow the park operator’s current instructions when making decisions inside a park.
