Valleyfair’s nighttime Halloween event begins Saturday, September 19, with operating rules that make advance planning essential for families and teen groups. ValleyScare runs Friday and Saturday nights through October 31 and requires a separate event ticket or an eligible season pass; its haunted mazes are included with admission.
The event is designed as an intense nighttime experience rather than a young-child program. Valleyfair lists five indoor mazes, four outdoor scare zones, live shows, roaming performers and select rides operating after dark. The park advises that fog, loud noises, special effects and intense themes may make the event unsuitable for younger guests.
The biggest logistical change for many parties is the ValleyScare chaperone policy. Every guest age 17 or younger must enter with a chaperone who is at least 21. One adult may accompany no more than five minors, must show a physical government-issued photo ID and must remain with the group throughout the visit. Digital pictures of identification are not accepted. Adults 18 and older may also be asked for identification to verify their age.
Visitors should also pack lightly. ValleyScare allows clear plastic bags smaller than 12 by 12 by 6 inches and non-clear wristlets or clutches no larger than 5 by 8 by 2 inches. All bags may be searched. The event has no re-entry, and guests may not wear masks, face paint or costume attire. Outside food and beverages are generally prohibited, although each person may bring one factory-sealed water bottle or an empty refillable bottle; exceptions apply for special dietary needs, baby food and formula.
Families seeking a daytime alternative can use Valleyfair’s Tricks and Treats program, which includes trick-or-treat trails, friendly characters, crafts, live entertainment and family rides with regular admission or an eligible pass. On Saturdays when both programs operate, the daytime park closes at 5:30 p.m. and all guests must exit. ValleyScare ticket holders and eligible passholders may then re-enter through the designated Route 76 gate during the transition.
Superior Shores Waterpark is closed for the 2026 season, so fall visits center on Valleyfair’s dry-park rides and Halloween programming. Guests should check the official calendar before traveling because operating dates, attraction availability and entertainment schedules can change.
