Six Flags Great America will begin its full fall-event schedule Saturday, September 19, launching daytime family activities, Oktoberfest and nighttime Fright Fest on the same opening weekend. All three programs continue on selected dates through November 1, but they are designed for different audiences and do not carry identical admission rules.
The most important distinction for visitors is that Fright Fest becomes an intense nighttime event. Six Flags does not recommend it for children younger than 13 after 6 p.m. Regular park admission covers entry to the park, scare zones and scheduled entertainment, but the haunted mazes require a separate Haunted Attractions Pass or a ticket bundle that includes maze access.
Plan separately for daytime and nighttime
Families with younger children can use Kids Boo Fest, scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays from September 19 through November 1. The daytime program includes a costume contest, trick-or-treat trail, parade, family shows and other Pumpkin Hollow activities. The park says the family programming takes place before the evening scares begin.
Guests who stay into the evening should also note the Fright Fest operating rules. The park will not permit re-entry after 8 p.m. Guests older than 12 may not wear costumes, full-face makeup, hoods with front zippers or full-face masks; medical and cloth face coverings over the mouth and nose remain allowed. The existing chaperone policy stays in effect, and effects may include fog, strobes, latex and loud noises.
This year's paid maze lineup includes the new Blair Witch: No Signal and Nightmares, plus The Conjuring Universe, SAW: Legacy of Terror and The Estate at Wretched Meadows. Visitors who want a lower-intensity afternoon option can instead attend Oktoberfest, which runs from 2 p.m. until one hour before park closing on selected dates and features German-style food, beverages and live entertainment.
Check the date before buying
The park's event calendar lists Fright Fest on selected nights, Kids Boo Fest on weekends and Oktoberfest on selected dates. Because daily hours and attraction availability can change, visitors should verify their date on the official calendar before purchasing admission or maze access.
