Adeptus USA plans to invest $215.56 million in its first South Carolina operation, a wood-products manufacturing facility in Anderson County expected to create 217 jobs. The South Carolina Department of Commerce announced the project Wednesday, with operations targeted for the second quarter of 2027.

The facility is planned for 1205 Hamby Road in Honea Path. It will make value-added and processed pine products used in construction and millwork, including painted and primed moulding, boards, shiplap and panel products. FOX Carolina separately reported the investment, job count, address and operating timetable, matching the state announcement.

For prospective workers, hiring will not begin all at once. Commerce said HTI will support recruiting during the startup period and that positions will be posted as they become available. The state announcement links applicants to a dedicated HTI employment page. With the opening still projected for the second quarter of next year, job seekers should treat 217 as the project’s announced employment commitment rather than a count of currently open positions.

The public-support package includes job development credits approved by the Coordinating Council for Economic Development and an $850,000 Closing Fund grant to Anderson County for building improvements. An independent report by the Upstate Business Journal confirmed those incentives along with the investment, employment target and 2027 timeline. Commerce did not publish the projected value of the job development credits in its announcement, so the full public cost cannot yet be calculated from the released figures.

The project arrives as state forestry officials are trying to replace wood-market capacity lost through mill closures. The South Carolina Forestry Commission says 14 mill closures or curtailments in South Carolina and neighboring states from 2023 through 2025 removed 10.7 million tons from the state’s wood markets, a decline of more than 30% from 2022. The agency’s current page also cites a 2020 estimate of $23.2 billion in statewide forestry impact and 100,133 supported jobs; those older figures are useful scale indicators, not a measurement of the new Adeptus project.

Adeptus could add demand for South Carolina pine by processing it into finished building products, but the announcement does not specify the plant’s annual timber consumption, sourcing radius or construction schedule. Those details will matter to timber growers, truckers and nearby residents assessing traffic and supply-chain effects.

The next practical checkpoints are county approvals, building work at the Honea Path site, recruitment notices and whether operations start on schedule. Residents can also watch future Coordinating Council disclosures and Anderson County records for additional incentive terms. Until hiring begins and capital is deployed, the project remains an announced investment with public incentives and a defined target rather than completed economic activity. Comparing later payroll, hiring and production data with Wednesday’s commitments will show how much of the projected benefit reaches the community.
