Oklahoma high school seniors can receive hands-on help submitting college applications during statewide College App Week from Monday, September 21, through Friday, September 25. The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education said participating schools will set aside time for seniors to complete online applications with help from volunteers drawn from colleges, businesses and community organizations.
The program is designed especially for students who would be the first in their family to attend college or who have not previously considered education beyond high school. College App Week activities have reached 75 of Oklahoma’s 77 counties. In 2025, 158 high schools, colleges, career-technology centers and tribal organizations helped more than 4,300 seniors submit over 7,900 applications.
The official week is a statewide focus rather than a hard cutoff. The Oklahoma College Assistance Program says schools and community organizations may hold their event during another week in the fall semester if September 21-25 does not fit their calendar. Its site provides student materials, coordinator resources and a list of Oklahoma colleges, universities and technology centers.
FAFSA opens October 1
Submitting an admission application is only one step. The 2027-28 Free Application for Federal Student Aid is scheduled to become available October 1, according to the state’s UCanGo2 guidance. Completing the FAFSA is the first step toward federal and state financial aid and is also a graduation requirement for Oklahoma public high school students.
Schools can request FAFSA information sessions or completion events for students and families. The state is also offering a FAFSA Data Portal webinar September 24 at 10 a.m. and a 2027-28 FAFSA webinar October 1 at 10 a.m. School staff can use the portal to track completion after new application data begins arriving, which the state expects by mid-October.
Check Oklahoma’s Promise eligibility
Students should also review the state’s tuition scholarship while application materials are open. Oklahoma’s Promise accepts applications from qualifying Oklahoma students in grades eight through 12, with a December 31 deadline during senior year and a requirement to apply before graduation. The program covers tuition at eligible Oklahoma colleges, universities and technology centers for students who meet its academic and conduct requirements.
Family adjusted-gross-income limits are $60,000 for households with one or two dependent children, $70,000 for three or four dependents and $80,000 for five or more. Special provisions may apply to children of long-serving Oklahoma public-school teachers, certain adopted or court-guardianship students, and families receiving taxable Social Security benefits after a parent’s death or disability.
For seniors, the practical sequence is straightforward: use College App Week to submit at least one admission application, prepare the documents needed for FAFSA before October 1, and check state scholarship eligibility now rather than waiting until spring. School counselors can confirm whether a local event is scheduled and what materials students should bring.
