The California Highway Patrol has scheduled an applicant-preparation workout in San Jose for Wednesday, October 21, giving prospective officers a local opportunity to prepare for the agency’s physical testing. The session is listed for 6–8 p.m. at the CHP San Jose Area office, 2020 Junction Avenue, San Jose, CA 95131.
The agency’s event listing links to registration through Eventbrite. Participants should use that current listing to check the arrangements before traveling. TAQ has not independently confirmed remaining places, a fee or individual registration acceptance; the published notice establishes the scheduled event, rather than a guarantee that anyone arriving can participate.
The Applicant Preparation Program, known as APP, is intended to help people prepare for CHP selection requirements. The division’s guidance distinguishes physical workouts from recruitment seminars and written-exam workshops. Workouts focus on preparation for the Physical Abilities Test, while seminars cover subjects such as the application process and academy life. Applicants should therefore check the type of session they are booking, rather than treating the programs as interchangeable.
That same guidance asks workout attendees to wear suitable athletic clothing, bring a towel and hydration, and avoid large logos or inappropriate material on clothing. It encourages solid dark-blue T-shirts. First-time workout attendees are told to complete and bring the APP waiver; the division says participants need a form on file.
The agency’s waiver document describes the physical component as preparation for testing and academy fitness. It also recommends consulting a medical doctor before strenuous physical activity. Attendees should read the document themselves and ask recruiters about any participation questions before the session.
The formal test standards are separate from the practice event. CHP lists minimums of 19 push-ups in one minute, 25 sit-ups in one minute, a 300-meter run in 70 seconds and a 1.5-mile run in 15 minutes. Applicants must complete every component to continue in that exam cycle; the agency says those who do not may reapply in the next cycle.
Physical preparation is only one part of becoming an officer. CHP’s hiring explanation describes application acceptance, physical testing, a written examination, background investigation, and medical and psychological evaluations. The agency describes its written exam as an English and grammar test rather than a test of law-enforcement terminology, and directs applicants to POST practice materials. The division also lists separate written-exam workshops and asks participants in those sessions to bring note-taking materials. Completing a preparation workout does not establish that an applicant has passed those later requirements or secured an academy place.
For event-status questions, the Golden Gate Division Recruitment Unit lists 707-917-4360 on its program page. The San Jose notice should be checked again for changes. This report relies on CHP’s own event, program and testing records; registration availability and the session’s specific exercises have not been independently verified.
