Families bringing teenagers to Carowinds this fall should plan around the park’s stricter published chaperone limit: one adult age 21 or older for no more than five guests age 15 or younger.

That limit appears on Carowinds’ current [policy page](https://www.sixflags.com/carowinds/code-of-conduct?ref=theamericanquorum.com), but the park’s separate [2026 guide](https://www.sixflags.com/blog/SCarowinds-Event-Guide?ref=theamericanquorum.com) says one chaperone may accompany as many as 10 younger guests. Because the two official pages conflict, groups larger than five minors should contact the park before traveling or bring additional qualified adults.

The policy applies daily beginning at 2 p.m., although Carowinds says enforcement can begin earlier. The adult must show a government-issued photo ID with a birth date, enter with the group, remain inside the park and be reachable by phone. Guests age 16 or older may also be asked for ID; those unable to verify their age may be denied entry.

## Leaving after 7 p.m. ends the visit

The same policy page says SCarowinds guests who exit after 7 p.m. cannot return, regardless of ticket type. The park specifically says it will not make exceptions for forgotten items, weather or personal needs. That makes it important to retrieve medication, jackets and other essentials before the restriction begins.

Carowinds’ nighttime event runs on select dates this fall and is not recommended for children under 13\. The [event page](https://www.sixflags.com/carowinds/events/scarowinds?ref=theamericanquorum.com) says every guest needs paid admission, while daytime [Tricks and Treats](https://www.sixflags.com/carowinds/events/tricks-and-treats?ref=theamericanquorum.com) offers family activities, a trick-or-treat trail and costumes for younger children before the nighttime scares begin.

## Admission does not cover every maze

Regular admission includes rides, scare zones and shows, but haunted mazes require a separate dated pass. The park’s [add-on page](https://www.sixflags.com/carowinds/scarowinds-add-ons?ref=theamericanquorum.com) lists the Haunted Attractions Pass from $10, plus a processing fee of up to $9.99 and taxes; park admission is not included. The Conjuring: Beyond Fear is separately listed from $15 and is also date-specific.

Costume rules change with age and time of day. Children 12 and younger may wear costumes and masks during designated daytime activities, but guests 13 and older may not wear costume masks, full face paint or costume attire during SCarowinds. Masks are prohibited on rides for everyone.

Before leaving home, visitors can check the [North Carolina park dashboard](https://parks.theamericanquorum.com/?country=US&state=NC&ref=theamericanquorum.com) for current planning information and the [North Carolina theme-park archive](https://www.theamericanquorum.com/north-carolina-theme-parks/) for continuing coverage. Because Carowinds’ two chaperone documents disagree, the safest operational assumption is five minors per adult unless the park confirms otherwise.
