- Description: Texas drivers can now examine reported insurance cancellations, nonrenewals and declined applications by ZIP code. The state tool explains patterns, but does not identify individual insurers or decide whether a particular action was fair.

Texas drivers have a new way to examine the insurance decisions affecting their neighborhoods: a state transparency webpage now includes personal auto policies that insurers declined, canceled or chose not to renew. Its usefulness depends on understanding what the figures measure and what they leave out.

The Texas Department of Insurance announced the addition on October 15\. Its [announcement](https://www.tdi.texas.gov/news/2026/tdi10152026.html?ref=theamericanquorum.com) says the resource includes reported reasons for those decisions, counts of the actions and the number of vehicles with policies. TDI connects the expanded reporting to House Bill 2067, passed in 2025.

The agency's [data page](https://www.tdi.texas.gov/consumer/reasons-home-and-auto-insurance-policies-are-declined-canceled-not-renewed.html?ref=theamericanquorum.com) organizes the information by ZIP code and policy type rather than insurance company. Users can choose reporting periods and switch between two reports. One counts policy actions; the other shows how often insurers cited particular reasons, alone or in combination.

That distinction matters. An insurer can give several reasons for one decision, so adding reason counts does not produce the number of affected policies. The agency also distinguishes a declined application from a policy ended early and one allowed to expire without renewal. Treating all three as cancellations would blur different circumstances.

TDI says reporting began April 1, 2026, and includes some earlier notices for policies nonrenewing on or after that date. Figures update as the department receives information. Readers should check the selected period before comparing results, and should not interpret an updated total as a fixed, final measure of a neighborhood's experience.

For an individual driver, the separate written explanation from the insurer remains important. TDI's [consumer guide](https://www.tdi.texas.gov/tips/was-your-auto-insurance-not-renewed-or-canceled.html?ref=theamericanquorum.com) explains that nonrenewal ends coverage at the policy's expiration, while cancellation ends it before that date. The guide describes notice requirements and the written reasons insurers must provide for decisions covered by the reporting law.

The department advises motorists facing a loss of coverage to ask whether their policy can be reinstated and, if necessary, begin shopping promptly so replacement coverage starts before the existing policy expires. It also describes a complaint process for consumers who believe an insurer acted unfairly and an assigned-risk option for qualifying drivers unable to obtain a policy in the regular market.

The guide also says drivers turned down by two insurance companies may qualify for minimum coverage through the Texas Automobile Insurance Plan Association. It directs consumers to ask an agent for help with that option.

The dashboard cannot adjudicate a complaint or reveal which insurer made a particular ZIP code's decisions. This report describes the agency's records and guidance; it does not establish that any individual insurer acted improperly. Questions about a specific notice can go to TDI's consumer help line at 800-252-3439.
