# OU Adds Tuition Guarantee for Oklahoma Families Earning $60K–$75K

The University of Oklahoma will begin a new tuition guarantee in fall 2027 for qualifying Oklahoma residents whose families report adjusted gross income between $60,000 and $75,000\. The program, called OU Onward, is designed for students who are not eligible for Oklahoma’s Promise and will use university and outside aid to cover remaining tuition and average fees.

OU announced the program September 30 and said it will apply to incoming freshmen, transfer students and qualifying current undergraduates. Under the university’s [published eligibility rules](https://www.ou.edu/admissions/affordability/ou-onward?ref=theamericanquorum.com), applicants must be Oklahoma residents, enroll full time in a Norman-based undergraduate program and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid by March 1, 2027.

## A last-dollar award, not a cash payment

OU Onward is structured as a last-dollar scholarship. Federal, state, institutional and other gift aid will be applied first; the university will then fill the remaining gap up to its stated tuition-and-average-fee amount. Students whose existing gift aid already exceeds that figure would not receive an additional OU Onward payment.

The distinction matters for family budgeting. The program is intended to cover tuition and average student fees, not the full cost of attendance. OU’s [current tuition schedule](https://www.ou.edu/bursar/tuition%5Ffees?ref=theamericanquorum.com) notes that charges vary by college and course. Housing, food, transportation, books and other living costs remain separate, and OU Online undergraduates are not eligible.

## How it differs from Oklahoma’s Promise

Oklahoma’s Promise remains the first route for students who qualify. The state program’s [current application rules](https://okpromise.org/application-requirements.shtml?ref=theamericanquorum.com) set household-income limits at $60,000 for families with one or two dependent children, $70,000 for three or four, and $80,000 for five or more. OU Onward excludes anyone eligible for Oklahoma’s Promise, so a family’s income band alone does not establish eligibility; household size, prior enrollment in the state program and FAFSA information all matter.

Incoming freshmen may receive OU Onward for up to four undergraduate years, while transfer students may receive it for up to three. Current OU undergraduates may also qualify beginning in fall 2027\. The award is limited to a student’s first bachelor’s degree, applies only to OU courses and does not cover summer enrollment.

For annual renewal, the [university announcement](https://www.ou.edu/news/articles/2026/September/ou-onward?ref=theamericanquorum.com) requires full-time enrollment, satisfactory academic progress, an annual FAFSA by March 1 and family income of no more than $100,000.

## Dates families should track

The scholarship does not begin until the 2027-28 school year. OU’s early-action deadline for fall 2027 freshmen is November 1, 2026, followed by the March 1 financial-aid deadline. Students should complete both the admission and FAFSA processes rather than treating the scholarship announcement as an automatic award.
