# Massachusetts Voter Guide Covers Nine Ballot Questions

Massachusetts voters are receiving an unusually dense statewide election guide: nine ballot questions will appear in the November 3 state election, and the Secretary of the Commonwealth says a printed booklet explaining them was mailed to every household in mid-September. The mailing gives voters several weeks to review the proposals before in-person early voting begins October 17\. Local schedules and locations are due on the state website by October 9; voters may use any early-voting site in the city or town where they are registered.

The number of statewide questions makes advance review particularly important. The guide contains the question text and explanatory material for all nine measures rather than simply listing titles. It is designed for screen readers, while printable editions are offered in English, Spanish, Traditional Chinese, Vietnamese and Khmer. The state nevertheless recommends applying two to three weeks before Election Day because the ballot still must travel to and from the voter.

Returned ballots may be mailed, hand-delivered to the local election office, placed in an authorized drop box or delivered to an early-voting location during its operating hours. They cannot be dropped at an Election Day polling place. For this biennial state election, a mailed domestic ballot postmarked by November 3 may arrive up to three days afterward; ballots delivered by other methods must be in local officials’ hands by the close of polls.

Before choosing a voting method, residents should verify that their registration and address are current.
