Daytona Beach residents and visitors using the Silver Beach access point face a change in their route to the ocean beginning Monday, October 19\. Volusia County’s construction notice schedules the ramp’s closure to pedestrians and vehicles through early 2027, while its current access page also identifies the off-beach parking area and public restrooms as part of the closure.

The county’s October 12 [closure notice](https://www.volusia.org/news/news-releases.stml?calendar%5Fentry%5Fid=92987&portalProcess%5Fdd%5F0%5F1%5F1=showPublicEvent&ref=theamericanquorum.com) describes reconstruction of the concrete ramp, new family-style restrooms positioned farther up the ramp, sidewalks, curbing, lighting and electrical work. The county says the restroom relocation is intended to reduce coastal storm impacts. Structural work and landscaping are also planned. These are announced improvements, rather than completed features available to beachgoers now.

For an alternative, the county’s current [access updates](https://www.volusia.org/services/public-works/coastal-division/beach-ramp-walkover-recovery.stml?ref=theamericanquorum.com) direct vehicles to the International Speedway Boulevard ramp to the north. The same page identifies off-beach parking at the Wisteria Road beach access to the south. Those are different functions: a location suggested for parking should not be assumed to offer the same vehicle access or accessible route as the closed ramp.

The access page separates vehicle ramps and driving zones, pedestrian access, and ADA pedestrian access into different resources. Visitors who need a step-free route should check the relevant accessibility information before choosing an alternative. The page also cautions that ramp closures can change because of tides, repairs or construction, so an earlier notice is not a guarantee that every alternative remains open when someone arrives.

The work has a longer planning history. The county’s [project record](https://www.volusia.org/services/public-works/coastal-division/beach-ramp-improvement-projects.stml?ref=theamericanquorum.com) says it approved a design-and-permitting task assignment with Zev Cohen & Associates in 2020 for the Silver Beach and International Speedway Boulevard ramps. That record describes hardscaping, landscaping and restroom improvements for both locations, and says the public-feedback surveys have closed. A shared planning program does not mean the two ramps have the same construction schedule.

Separately, the county’s [accessibility guidance](https://www.volusia.org/services/public-protection/beach-safety/beach-information-for-the-disabled.stml?ref=theamericanquorum.com) lists free beach wheelchairs at designated lifeguard stations, including Beach Headquarters in Daytona Beach. Supply is limited and offered first come, first served; borrowing time depends on demand. This is a resource to investigate, rather than a reservation or an assurance that a wheelchair will be available at a particular hour.

The same guidance places conditions on beach parking for vehicles displaying a disability placard. It specifically excludes parking east of the established traffic lane between the Silver Beach and University Beach approaches because of congestion. A placard therefore should not be treated as permission to park anywhere along that stretch.

The early-2027 reopening estimate comes from the county’s announcement, not an independently inspected construction schedule. TAQ has not inspected the site or certified the accessibility of an alternative route. Before traveling, residents can consult the county’s current access resources or Volusia Beaches app for changes affecting their planned arrival.
