# Colorado Urges BallotTrax Signup Before Mailings Begin

Colorado election officials are urging voters to enroll in BallotTrax before 2026 general-election ballots begin moving through the mail, with the first ballots due to go to military and overseas voters on Saturday, September 19.

The statewide tracking service sends status notices by text message, email or phone as a mail ballot moves from issuance to acceptance. According to a [September 15 announcement from Secretary of State Jena Griswold](https://www.coloradosos.gov/pubs/newsRoom/pressReleases/2026/PR20260915BallotTrax.html?ref=theamericanquorum.com), more than 2.2 million Coloradans are enrolled, representing 57% of the state’s active voters. The system has been available statewide since 2020.

Voters can enroll through the official [Colorado BallotTrax portal](https://ballottrax.coloradosos.gov/voter/?ref=theamericanquorum.com). Notifications begin after county clerks mail ballots. The service is intended to show when a ballot is sent, when it is received by the county and when it is accepted for counting; it does not display how anyone voted.

The timing matters because Colorado’s mailing schedule starts well before Election Day. Counties must send ballots to military and overseas voters by September 19\. Ballots for other active voters are scheduled to be mailed between October 2 and October 9\. The minimum required number of ballot drop boxes must be open by October 12, followed by required voter service centers on October 19.

October 26 is the deadline to register in time to receive a ballot by mail. Colorado still permits eligible voters to register after that date, but they must then vote in person. State officials also identify October 26 as the last suggested day to return a ballot through the U.S. mail. Beginning October 27, voters who still have a ballot should deliver the signed return envelope to a drop box or vote center, or vote in person.

All regular ballots must be submitted, or the voter must be in line at a voting location, by 7 p.m. on November 3\. Military and overseas ballots must be sent no later than that same deadline, although separate receipt rules apply.

Ballot tracking is one part of the state’s voter-service system. The [Go Vote Colorado portal](https://www.coloradosos.gov/voter/pages/pub/home.xhtml?ref=theamericanquorum.com) lets a voter verify or update a registration, check a mail-ballot status, find a drop box or voting center, view a sample ballot and locate a county clerk. It also links voters to Colorado’s online ballot-curing process if election officials identify a signature or identification problem.

Voters should use the state-hosted BallotTrax address rather than links in unsolicited messages. A tracking notice is informational; it does not replace the requirement to sign the return envelope or meet the 7 p.m. Election Day deadline. Anyone whose tracking status does not advance as expected can use the official portal to find the appropriate county clerk.

Checking registration and notification settings now gives voters time to correct outdated contact or mailing information before county clerks begin the main October mailing.
