Visitors to three Orange County state parks still face a patchwork of closures and service restrictions after coastal storm damage, while a separate wildfire has shut the Bluffs area at San Onofre State Beach.

California State Parks’ October 15 [storm update](https://www.parks.ca.gov/NewsRelease/1597?ref=theamericanquorum.com) described erosion, flooding, damaged utilities and unstable bluffs at Crystal Cove State Park, Doheny State Beach and San Onofre. The agency did not set firm reopening dates, saying access would depend on repairs and safety checks.

## Crystal Cove remains open with restrictions

Crystal Cove’s [current page](https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page%5Fid=644&ref=theamericanquorum.com), checked by the agency October 20, lists the park as open with service or facility restrictions and warns of continuing swell and high-tide impacts in the Historic District.

The October 15 release said North Beach cottages had reopened, while South Beach cottages remained temporarily closed for water-line repairs. It also listed closures at Pelican Point’s P2 beach access and Moro Cove because of bluff failures or instability. The public page does not provide a newer cottage reopening confirmation, so visitors should not treat the earlier end-of-week estimate as a guarantee.

## Doheny is open during cleanup

Doheny’s [park page](https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page%5Fid=645&ref=theamericanquorum.com) lists regular hours and no parkwide closure. The storm release said cleanup was continuing after coastal flooding, with some parking areas restricted because of standing water and debris. Visitors should follow posted signs because the public page may not capture every temporary work zone.

## San Onofre has storm and fire restrictions

San Onofre’s [status page](https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page%5Fid=647&ref=theamericanquorum.com), last checked by the agency October 19, says the Bluffs portion is closed until further notice because of the Scales Fire. It also reports road damage, parking restrictions and unavailable water and restrooms at Surf Beach after high tides and heavy surf.

The October 15 storm release said Surf Beach’s access road was closed to vehicles, while pedestrian, bicycle and surfing access remained available outside designated unsafe or construction areas. The current page separately says the overall park is open with restrictions. Those statements describe different areas and should not be read as a blanket reopening of Bluffs or damaged facilities.

## Reservation holders should wait for direct notice

California State Parks directs visitors to ReserveCalifornia for camping availability. Its general [reservation policy](https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page%5Fid=1029&ref=theamericanquorum.com) explains cancellation, modification and early-out rules, but those standard terms do not establish how every agency-caused closure will be handled. Travelers with affected reservations should rely on direct ReserveCalifornia messages and the three park pages before driving to the coast.

All cited condition reports are California State Parks records. They are authoritative for posted agency restrictions but do not independently measure the full damage, predict repair completion or confirm that every reservation holder has received notice.
