Naples Capodichino Airport enters a month-long shutdown on Nov. 1, removing a major gateway to southern Italy from flight schedules and shifting some passengers to Salerno, Rome or replacement ground transport.

The planned closure runs through Nov. 30 while the runway is refurbished. Airport operator GESAC’s [closure notice](https://www.aeroportodinapoli.it/en/w/airport-closed?ref=theamericanquorum.com) describes scheduled work intended to maintain safety standards. The operational change begins today; it was announced in advance and is not an emergency closure.

For travelers, the immediate distinction is between a canceled flight and a flight moved to another airport. Salerno will absorb only part of Naples’ traffic. A November booking associated with Naples therefore needs an itinerary check covering the actual airport, onward transport and return journey.

## Salerno takes selected routes

GESAC’s [November plan](https://www.aeroportodinapoli.it/en/w/flights-and-transport-salerno-airport?ref=theamericanquorum.com) lists 15 domestic and international destinations served from Salerno Costa d’Amalfi e del Cilento Airport during the closure. Domestic links include Bergamo, both Milan airports, Genoa, Turin and Trieste. International destinations include Amsterdam, Barcelona, Casablanca, Dubai, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Madrid, Paris and Sharm el-Sheikh.

The operator says both Salerno terminals will be used to handle the additional traffic. Its General Aviation Terminal will accommodate flights serving Casablanca, Dubai, Sharm el-Sheikh and Madrid. Travelers should check terminal instructions as well as the airport name, rather than assuming that every transferred flight uses the same departure facility.

The destination list describes the temporary network, not a guarantee that every former Naples flight has an equivalent replacement. Availability, operating dates and individual reservations remain matters for the airline. That is especially relevant for travelers connecting from a long-haul flight or joining a separately booked tour.

## Airlines use different alternatives

[ITA Airways](https://www.ita-airways.com/sa/en/book-and-prepare/current-information?ref=theamericanquorum.com) confirms that its Milan Linate services will operate from Salerno during the Naples closure. Its Rome services will instead be replaced by buses. The airline directs passengers affected by cancellations or schedule changes to contact it about alternative arrangements or refunds where applicable.

Independent guidance from German travel organization [ADAC](https://www.adac.de/news/reise-flughafen-neapel-geschlossen/?ref=theamericanquorum.com) corroborates those arrangements and reports that Eurowings will move Düsseldorf and Stuttgart services to Salerno. It also describes Rome Fiumicino as an alternative for Lufthansa-group passengers, subject to the airline’s rebooking arrangements.

These differences make the revised booking more useful than a general airport-closure announcement. A passenger on one route may have a changed airport, while another may have a bus segment or need a different flight. Before accepting a replacement, travelers should ask where the contracted journey ends and how the final ground transfer will be handled.

For a connection involving more than one booking, confirm each reservation separately. A change accepted on the inbound flight does not by itself confirm a revised hotel transfer, rental-car collection or separately purchased onward service. Keeping those arrangements aligned is the practical consequence of moving the airport leg.

## A temporary bus link starts today

[Busitalia Campania](https://www.fsbusitalia.it/eng/campania/timetables-and-lines/special-service-napoli-centrale-salerno-airport.html?ref=theamericanquorum.com) is operating a special direct service between Napoli Centrale’s Piazza Garibaldi area and Salerno Airport from Nov. 1 through Nov. 30\. The operator lists eight departures in each direction daily and a €12 fare. Its notice specifies that the service is reserved for passengers holding a valid flight ticket for the day of travel.

The published timetable allows roughly 60 to 75 minutes for the bus journey, depending on the departure. The Naples boarding-stop link identifies Via Galileo Ferraris. Tickets can be bought at listed retail outlets or aboard the bus by debit or credit card.

Those scheduled journey times should be treated as transport time, not as the entire margin needed before a flight. Travelers still need to account for reaching the bus stop, waiting for the appropriate departure, checking baggage and clearing airport procedures. Checking the current timetable is particularly important for an early departure or a late arrival.

## Refunds and compensation are different

The European Union’s [passenger guidance](https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/passenger-rights/air/index%5Fen.htm?ref=theamericanquorum.com) distinguishes reimbursement or rerouting from additional financial compensation. For flights covered by EU rules, cancellation generally gives passengers a choice among reimbursement, rerouting at the earliest opportunity or later travel under comparable conditions, subject to seat availability.

Additional compensation depends on factors including advance notice, replacement timing and extraordinary circumstances. Being told more than 14 days ahead generally removes entitlement to cancellation compensation. An airport closure should therefore not be treated as an automatic promise of a cash award, nor should the absence of compensation be confused with the absence of other rights.

## Confirm the whole journey

The practical priority throughout November is to verify the revised itinerary directly with the operating airline before leaving for an airport. Check both directions, any bus substitution and the terminal shown in the latest instructions. Keep written confirmation of agreed transfers and any refund or rerouting choice.

Salerno’s temporary network and the new bus connection preserve some access to the region, but they do not reproduce the full Naples schedule. Travelers who confirm each segment now will be better placed to judge whether their replacement journey still fits their plans.
